Lorna Dee Cervantes uses her ability to speak two languages in one poem for her to remember her past, her memories and from where she’s from. The words she uses in the poem reveal who she is and remind her of her childhood, making her nostalgic. This poem is pointed out especially to those persons who somehow have lost something valuable and there’s no way to turn back to get it or, to the persons who lived in that community and now they look back at the broken memories.
The kind of description offered helps us to see a picture of a calm place where everything is good. There’s a factory nearby and a place of a green area. There’s another description. This one is about the freeway, lots of cars, everything new and modern.
The juxtaposition used is a contrast between these two opposite words. When we mention a corpse, we refer to the end of something, but when we mention the loose seed, we refer to the start of something new. So, even though her memories were buried like a corpse, some new ones are growing like a loose seed.
